yeah the crazy speeds are kind of useless but the trident zs are the only black/white themed ram in nz hence why im after them

Then don't buy a 1080 for sure, because that's pointless with your display

you're better off with an RX 480 and a display upgrade

all of these are free-sync displays, G-sync displays are generally far more expensive

Let's be honest, we have no idea of how Ryzen performs in general yet you're already planning to have it in your build. We're just as clueless as you are. Combined with the fact that there may be other products releasing before you actually build, I suggest you ask again later.

true on the testing conditions.but if the chips arent as good as they say they are it would be financial suicide..

'nonsense'

Why would you buy a product without an independent, seperate source saying it's performance? I don't trust rumors or what AMD says themselves due to them being a biased source towards their own product.

idk

That's the worst way to do it, because faster GPUs are always coming out or GPUs are always getting cheaper, and a 1080 will be like 30-40% utilized at 1080p, like the 1080ti is going to launch soon and it'll be way more capable for 3440x1440p gaming

the RX 480 is more than capable at 1080p, you're going to have the exact same experience overall on both cards until you upgrade your display

and it looks like it's about $1000 for a no-sync 3440x1440p display
https://nz.pcpartpicker.com/product/FWDzK8/aoc-monitor-u3477pqu

and $2200 for a G-sync display with the same panel, but higher refresh rate at 100hz for double the price, but your 1080 wouldn't be able to really push the display to it's limit without dropping settings
https://nz.pcpartpicker.com/product/vhkwrH/asus-monitor-rogswiftpg348q

And if you're buying your monitor for gaming, this display has free-sync, and is about $1200, and while it is 2560x1080p, it's 144hz and IPS, then when Vega launches you could upgrade to that and totally max out this display

If you really want to do that, you're going to have to go much higher spec than you have right now.

For example, these 10 8 year old processors are crutched-up only by the fact that there are two of them, and I suppose the same will be the same in ten years for current high-end.

If you really want a machine for the decade, it has to be way up there.

how much did your pcs cost if you dont mind telling.

Nothing will last for 1440p 144hz or 1440p 21:9 100Hz

here's a high refresh rate system build from gamers nexus, and while the 1080 is pretty capable overall at 2560x1440p, it won't be for very long

now 2560x1080p, that'll run for a while on a high end GPU since you're trying to hit 144hz

the whole point is that it's worthless to buy a 1080 with a 1080p display, when a 480 will run your display just fine, then you can upgrade the display much sooner, and the 480 will still be fine overall at slightly lower settings if you get the 2560x1080p 144hz display

and then you can either throw in a 2nd 480, or Upgrade to Vega which should be faster than a 1080 anyways, and is coming in Q2

-

-

How soon were you going to even be able to upgrade your display?

Let's not make any assumptions.

Pretty much has to be if AMD is going to try and take any ground at the high end, the engineering samples so far seem to at least be slightly faster in DOOM, which is a best case scenario for AMD of course.

In what way the 480 shitty exactly? A 1070 even is overkill for your current display. And then you still have the more expensive G-sync display to buy. A decent 8 GB 480 will get you 70-80% the performance a 1070 gives you.

and once you buy your 3440x1440p display, the 1070 will not be able to keep up with your display very well. Where as you could wait, and be fine, and then get Vega or the 1080ti which will actually run the 3440x1440p display, or the 2560x1080p 144hz display

Here's more current 480 benchmarks, it's pretty much surpassed the 1060 overall, especially in DX12/Vulkan, and it's more than fine for your current display
