The architecture itself is planned to last four years. In that case, would it be necessary, or highly beneficial to upgrade to Ryzen+? (Assuming that AMD is successful at that point)

I'm not exactly sure on what processor to get. I could get an R5 1300 (4/8) which would be great for me. Or I could get an R5 1500 (6/12) for the extra cores, which might benefit me in the future. So if I overclock it when Ryzen+ releases, I perhaps wouldn't be so inclined to upgrade and can spend my 'upgrading budget' on other parts?

Dude we don't even know much about the R5 and R3 chips yet, let alone the Ryzen+ chips.

I pre-ordered the 1700x with the same thought process. Heres the way I look at it. The X version of Ryzen's chips are supposed to support more overclocking, meaning more life out of the chip before having to upgrade again, however all Ryzen chips are overlockable, the X versions are supposed to just have much more headroom. I buy the best thing I can afford and use it for years before upgrading (Unless there is a significant reason to do so). Get he best thing you can within your budget when you can, and don't worry so much. Performance jumps over the last 5 years of Intel haven't been Gigantic. I have a Sandy-bridge chip thats over 4 years old that I overclocked in my wife's rig that is still great.

I would rather agree on what we share, than fight on what we don't. - Myself

as soon as Zen hits the shelves it becomes obsolete

the tech inside the Zen ach was designed years ago - the 4y plan is a huge mistake on AMD's part

also, Intel's Cofee Lake will launch later this year

The Zen architecture started years ago.

Or does it provide a consistent upgrade path without having to worry about changing platform for a long time? Just another way to look at it. Btw I have built with intel for 5 years because AMD wasn't worth it. Hopefully now it will be.

maybe it will be until Cofee Lake hits, and then what? jump ship again?!

that doesn't sound like a good investment plan

Do you have proof of this.

And did you know it takes years to design a new architecture.

oh, so it takes years to design an arch, you just don't have it the previous day the CPUs go on shelves -_- isn't that exactly what I said .. eh?!

yes, the Zen arch was designed years ago and has gone through couple of improvements as the leaks showed

you don't know how a arch will perform until you actually build the darn CPU and then refine it

They spent years designing for a massive IPC gain. That's worth it imo, if you look at kaby lake's IPC gains.

its obvious intel was just "making money" instead of trying to achieve real better performance...

In other words... When you have no competition... you don't need to make a greater product, you can make a little better product and still people will buy it because your the only one... no competition...

Now that AMD have pushed the bar... Watch out for intel in the next months.. year.. I bet the improvement on the next cpus will be relevent

No don't jump ship, unless their is a compelling reason or value to do so. Right now Ryzen has the most compelling Value. Maybe next year its Intel. The what if game is not something anyone wins at. Just pick what is valuable at the time you buy or upgrade, and you won't have to worry so much.

I know the real benchmarks aren't out yet, but considering the 1800X got 5.1ghz on liquid nitrogen, do you think I could get 4.2ghz stable on a hyper 212 evo with the 1400? I won't be overclocking on the day I build the PC, I'll just buy a CPU Cooler when Ryzen+ releases.

Who knows right :D. I plan on doing a full benchmark review when I get the chip and Im going to post about it, and link my vid and all that as I am sure many will. I am just not scared of what I find. Either it will be good, or it won't and if it isn't, then back it goes :D

right now. Zen isn't launched

the only numbers we see are from AMD's PR and haven't been confirmed by anyone

I see a lot of people pre-ordering this shit without knowing anything concrete on what they're actually buying ...

Completely fair, I just answered OP on this. I am going to benchmark, test and overclock that shit out of it and then review it, post about it, make a vid on it like I am sure lots of people will do. I am ok being the guinea pig because I am not afraid of the results. If it ends up sucking, then I exchange it and life goes on :D

I am by no means wealthy, I just live frugally, and save and plan, was planning for this for a while. just said it someone else, I will be a guinea pig, because I am not scared of what my findings are. Return policies are a thing. :D

I do not give a flying fuck about any presentation, done by anyone (AMD, Intel, nVidia)

until I see verifiable numbers I do not make purchases

That's your problem, you missed the actual hard data that was verified by countless techies.
