Hey Guys

I'm wondering if it's possible to set up x SDD in a RAID0 array and then back them up to a single drive  incase of failure of either drive. and to take it a step further - upon hypothical failure could I then rewrite my data from my 1 larger hard drive back into a raid0 set up with 1 hard drive replaced?

I'm ordering SSD for my new computer thursday/friday so any input would be greatly apperciated, I'd rather not drop the money into 4 SSD's and set up raid 10.

Thank you !

P.S. in the Attachement you can see a picture of the RAID 0 and backup.

You can't do what your asking, with normal controllers sadly, even if you could in your example the SSD's would have to be cached so you could still lose data.

Remember Raid will run at the speed of the slowest drive in the array.

You could run 3 SSD's in raid 5 btw...

What I have always done is run a backup program that's set to run backups during the day.

Okay thank you for your reply.

Can I have a RAID 0 with x SSD's, and backup these with an normal HDD?

And what is the Software i need to backup these SSD's?

Does I need an controller ?

Is it better with an controller ?

Or can i use the onboard from Asus ?

Thank you

Yes best practice is to raid 2 SSD's in raid 0 and have a local backup drive...

Use http://www.acronis.co.uk/

No

Its pointless no real performance benefit for only 2 drives in raid 0 (decent raid controllers can cost £100's)

Use the standard Asus raid

But the RAID - Controller from Asus does have only an SATA-2.

When I have 4 SSD on Raid0 does I Need an Controller with SATA-3 ?

Sorry about my Englisch

I cant answer that question unless you let me know what SSD drives your are using and what the MB model number is....

Just copy all of the data on the raid 0 array and paste it onto the 500GB drive. that simple.
