New KabyLake processor arrival

vong

Any ideas when the new 7640K and 7740K will be released? Looking to upgrade late next month as that's when my mobo arrives so I want to know if I should get the 7700K in the next few weeks or wait a bit longer for the 7740K to come out.

Not sure when Ryzen will be available but I'm sure the new intel processors will be out before them.

I'd wait for the new Kaby-Lake processors to come out. The i7-7740K is going to be on the new X299 chipset and the i5-7640K will still be on the Z270, B250, and H270 chipsets.

I'd expect them to come out right around Ryzen release (i.e probably a couple of weeks before and after). If intel delays it too much they might fail in getting some of lime light towards them.

There are rumours that Ryzen will be out march 2nd (stated by a reliable tech website). I would expect the new Kaby Lake ones not too long after.

EDIT: Though I'd wait a little while extra, because it could take some before the Intel CPU prices have dropped to where they stop. I plan myself to do a build for my dad in the near future, but since I learned about the release date, I'll probably wait until end of April or beginning if May to wrap up the build list and order the parts to get it the most affordable.

On the other hand though I can imagine Intel won't drop the 7740k and 7640k pricing when Ryzen is out, but instead drop the 7700k and 7600k and use the newer ones as a little more deluxe options.

Don't forget to invest in an Intel Tuning Plan if you're going to overvolt your K/X CPU

I heard that on a video that was discussing it. Don't know if it will be for sure but there is a chance that it will be.

Nah you're right from what I've been told. New processors will be on LGA2066 socket. Gonna stick with the Z270 platform as it won't be released until 2H 17 anyway.
