Is it possible to use my droid turbo on Android 6 with the daydream headset? Like would it work to just find the daydream app apk and use it?

No. Daydream requires OS level integration and specific hardware that Android M and the droid turbo did not have.

 

While you can force your device to ignore the requirement for the hardware features, there's no way around the need for the OS code other than a custom ROM based on 7.0 or higher.

 

I also strongly suggest against sideloading Daydream apps onto a device that isn't daydream certified. While it may work, the lack of high precisions sensors, less sustainable thermals, longer driver input latency, lack of Vulkan support, and relatively higher persistence of the screen tends to cause a very nauseating and uncomfortable experience.
