Ive played Fallout 4 for many hours till I deleted it now after a re install and no fiddling with the ini files. My game runs awfully I have the settings on ultra and getting around 50fps average. no full screen setting and fov slider wtf!!

I was just checking with others to confirm its not just me who's having problems with fallout 4 vinilla. Any suggestions for fixes welcome.

I know the feel fam. I have to run 1080p medium (used to run 1080p high w/ ultra textures) because the stutter and randomness just got too bad. Seems like it happened after one of the earlier on updates. :/

I doubt you could run that game maxed even at 1080p on that hardware frankly.  Nothing against the hardware, it's just a demanding game (outside in downtown areas at least).  Reduce the settings.

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

maybe try reducing some settings rather than running at ultra

I knocked it down to medium still stuck at 50fps.

my graphics card should be able to handle allot more maybe the game has some how locked it to a set FPS

see if you have vsync turned on anywhere - in-game settings, nvidia control panel as well

also see if you have set a global fps limiter - rivatuner, nvidia inspector

and check if your monitor is outputting correct refresh rate. for W10: search "display", advanced display settings, displayer adapter properties, monitor, screen refresh rate

My monitor is g-sync thats set to on at full screen

as for the fps limmit and bits double checked att set to 100hz.

As ryan_Vickers says it might be just the game being demanding :(

Reducing settings dramatically should noticeably increase framerate though...

OK something else is wrong then... I've seen fps get capped for a few reasons.  One that could be happening in your case is vsyncing to 50 fps.  I know it shouldn't, but I've seen it happen.

<- 2560x1440 maxed + tons of mods. I had to limit my frames to 100 because of lockpicking. His Hardware is fine.

It can and does drop in certan Areas because of godrays and shadowdrawdistance tho.

I dont see any Problems with 50FPS and Gsync in FO anyway.

I wonder if I may have the same mysterious problem as the OP then xD

Put shadow distance to medium, shadow quality to medium, maybe high. Put godrays to low. That's how I run at 1440p. Always stay above 65, but most of the time I'm at a full capped 80.

open FO4 folder

Crtl+A

Shift+Del

enter

Beyond that, you can always try opening task manager and upgrading the priority of FO4.exe to above normal and see if its windows doing daffy shit thats spiking resource demand while you're gaming.  Given your specs its a fairly idiotic suggestion, but it is also super easy to test.

Well i dont use vanilla godrays and shadows. So "maxed" is only half true. Since Mods often look better and run better. I remember vanilla godrays were not that optimized.

There is a Godrays "fix" on nexusmods which gives you much better performance from Ultra godrays, and doesn't make them look much worse.

Also check out ShadowBoost, it dynamically changes shadow draw distance depending on your desired framerate. Shadows are a HUGE framerate killer in Fallout 4, so cutting the shadow distance does a lot for performance.
