I'm pretty sure that yes they must be identical in manufacturer, and size.

It probably depends on your RAID controller (if we're talking hardware RAID)

or your RAID software (for software RAID). Some might be more finicky than

others.

It is possible in some circumstances to RAID-0 different drives, but if one

is slower than the other, your overall speed will take a hit, and if one drive

is smaller than the other, your overall pool capacity will be limited by that.

So, even when it's possible, it's not really a smart idea, not at all IMO.
