WD 500GB Magnet

Moosedoctor

Dear smarter folk,

Any ideas as to the WTF of my WD 500 HDD suddenly becoming magnetized, I mean, pulling other HDDs towards itself after I unplugged all six of them.

Please don't respond with "did you put it next to your speakers" or I will.

Hard drives do have powerful magnets inside them for the R/W heads (make great fridge magnets) and they should have heavy magnetic shielding inside to stop the drive corrupting itself.

Other than a shielding failure, or if you just filled the drive with magnets, idk what could be causing it.

I'm just gonna put it on the bench for a while and see if it wears off.  I mean I do use a magnet to magnetize douchebag-made non-magnetized screws.  I thought that's definitely it, so I time traveled and realized that none of those screws even came close to storage space.  Only motherboard screws.
