Hi, second thread on this forum. got referred to this site from the Youtube channel.

I wanted to post my intended build here to see if anyone would see any red flags or replacements I should make. My top budget is around 1000 CAD$ with tax+shipping. I game quite a bit and I do some 3D modelling as a hobby. I already ordered the CPU, which is the AMD FX-8350, because there was a good sale at a local store that ended yesterday. Now the rest I can still change, here it is:

CPU: AMD FX-8350

CPU Cooler: Gammaxx 400

Motherboard: Gigabyte 970-GAMING SLI

GPU: Gigabyte Radeon 480 8GB G1

RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600
Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB SSD

PSU: EVGA 600B 600W 80+ Bronze ATX

Case: Phanteks Eclipse P400

I have pretty much topped my budget here, as I already own a good monitor/mouse/keyboard and I have a spare optical drive and a HDD. The way I chose these was to consult my friends who know more than me about this, consult reviews and go with best-selling/best-rating for the price range of every parts, and videos from LinusTechTips.

So what do you guys say? Is there anywhere I could save up? Are there any parts in here that you've had bad experiences with? Anything that has better performance for the same price?

The current gen AMD CPUs are not as fast as the last gen skylake CPUs. Even the i3-6100 is on par with that CPU. Are you able to return it?

You NEED to return your CPU.  DO NOT OPEN THE BOX!  even if you have to pay return shipping, send it back and wait one month for a Ryzen CPU.

The FX 8350 is a very old design and was never that good.

OK! I will see what I can do about this! But are the prices for these new Ryzen CPU out yet? Won't they be considerably pricier since they are recent?

1. 8350 is a 4-5 year old CPU which is not worth the money. as ppl said, an i3 can beat it in some games.

2. it offers no upgrade path. when you want to change ur CPU, u have to get a new motherboard.

So even if its pricier, it will be worth to w8 or get intel cpu.

what game you play and what resolution? maybe you can downgrade to rx470 to save some money towards a better CPU.

A lower tier ryzen cpu should easily beat that cpu.  Paul's hardware did a price and performance projection video a couple weeks back that would be a good watch.

I'm sure you'll be able to get a Ryzen 4 core/8 thread CPU for similar price or a little higher.  If you can't afford it, just save up a little longer.

There are rumors that an 8C/16T Ryzen CPU with about the same performance as the 6900K will cost only 320$. If that is true, imagine what the 6 and 4 cores will cost.
