Hey guys!

So I have been trying to get a microphone working on my desktop for quite some time now and tought I could use some help from you. My desktop has 2 audio ports on the front (headphone and microphone). I tried using 2 models of headphones with microphone (a pair of akg and earpods (these models only have 1 jack)) but I can barely hear the recordings when I test the headphone in the microphone port, even with the levels and amplifier maxed out. It also does not work (or it is just background sound) on discord or in games. Also, I reinstalled the drivers for the audio (Realtek).

I have been thinking about buying a headset with 2 jacks (logitech g230) but I was wondering if it would work.

Thank you!

Hi there!

What you can try to do is plug them in to your motherboard rather than the front of the case.

If it works you'll know the drivers are fine and it's probably your microphone input being mean to you. If this is the case; open your sidepanel and check if your chassis front audio is properly connected to the motherboard or damaged.

What model of headphones are you currently using and what case/motherboard do you have? Are we looking at inline microphones with 3 black rings on the plug because sometimes TRRS jacks aren't fully compatible with TRS jacks

Why do you always die right after I fix you?

Thanks for your answers! So my motherboard is a DH57M01 and it should have  Realtek  ALC887  on it. I have tried with a pair of TRRS (3 lines) and a pair of TRS. Plugging in the back of the desktop (in the mobo?) seems to be a little bit better. It detects the sound at least. I looked and everything seems to be ok and nothing is damaged on the motherboard.

Do you think it would work with the G230? I think they have TRS jacks.

Thanks!

Would you be willing to try something silly for me, I suspect that when you have them plugged into the mic port its using the earphones as the microphone and not the actual mic, here's what mine sounds like when plugged into my comuter
trrs test.wav could you try recording talking into the mic then take them off and talk into the speakers and see if its the same deal.

Why do you always die right after I fix you?

I'm actually able to record but the volume is not as great as in your recording and I maxed out everything. I don't know if the earpods (TRRS) are the reason for the low volume and if a dedicated jack for the microphone would solve the problem but I'm pretty sure that the G230 would work better. Thanks!
