I'm disappointed in you, comrade. You can get a much faster CPU and a decent motherboard that supports Intel's latest chips, rather than an antique with no upgrade path.

People need to stop recommending Athlon x4 chips. Also, you used up both RAM slots on the motherboard, and the motherboard doesn't exactly have glowing reviews.

I would recommend a RX470 for 125USD instead. it's a bit more money, but it's a LOT more performance.

Start recommending this combo instead. It's on par with a Core i3 6100, and that motherboard's BIOS can be flashed without installing a CPU. I believe all ASUS boards can do that.

So this is a good build? What would I get graphics wise on games like Overwatch?

Swap out to a G4560 instead of a G4500.

Great! Also, recommend ASUS H110 boards. You can update the BIOS on them without having a CPU installed, so no trouble with Kabylake support.

Where is this magically cheap 470? Also, it'll need a better power supply. We're looking at maybe $70 or $80 more, since the cheapest 470 on the block is $165 and a reliable power supply to support it will be at least $15 more than the 300w SeaSonic.

I'm pretty sure EZ Flash requires a CPU and is just an easy way to update the bios while USB BIOS flashback allows you to update the bios without a CPU.

Will it work with an unsupported CPU installed?

I mean, owners of the Maximus VI Formula motherboard are able to update the BIOS without a CPU installed, using the board's EZFlash 2 technology.

Is there a separate technology altogether that enable the BIOS to be updated without a CPU or with an unsupported one?

Even in that thread there is no definitive answer (there are people saying that it does and does not work). But if you look into any Asus board, you'll see that it specifically mentions that you can update without a CPU under the USB UEFI BIOS Flashback, but it doesn't say that with EZ Flash. As far as I can tell, EZ Flash is just a useful tool to update the bios from within the bios with a few simple clicks whereas USB BIOS Flashback allows you to do it without a CPU.

So same build with the G4560, what would you all suggest for a motherboard that has overclocking capabilities? You know for future upgradability. Kind of thinking something with 4 slots for ram too, again for maximum upgradability.

You should make your own thread rather than jumping on a pre-existing one.

@Aereldor I contacted Asus support for some clarification, and EZ Flash is just a convenient utility, but it does require you to get into the BIOS (and thus requires a compatible CPU). USB UEFI Bios Flashback is what allows you to update the bios without a CPU -- and that's only on mid/high end boards.
