Ok the time has finally come, i am getting a new router to replace the wireless g belkin things that i have at the moment. I really dont want to spend more that 150$ AU and would like to buy from PC case gear .

now for the things that i need out of the router.

it must have Gigabit lan

must be at least single band wireless N(dual band or AC would be nice)

No modem router combo units( i have a router because i have cable internet)

now for the options that i have been looking at

This TP link has all the things i need and is within my price range but there is an ASUS dualband and TP link AC router for 189 and 175 respectively.

now this is where all you lovely people in the networking board come in, is it worth the extra money for the ASUS one or the TP link AC router(do you even think that AC is worth it at the moment anyway even for future proofing sake).

I would only get the ASUS if you can put third party firmware on it, I have used their DSL-N55U Modem/router combo and I can say the software is good for people who want to do basic things. For anyone who wants to do anything other than just connect to the internet you need 3rd party firmware. The ASUS QoS doesn't work at all and firmware updates are few and far between.Go for the TP-Link WDR3600/4300 and put Gargoyle on it, or if you know your way around linux, install OpenWRT.

has anyone ever had any negative experiences with TP link routers in general, because the low price compared to the ASUS options. Also regardless of what router i get i will run third party firmware on it simply because i can.
