My computer randomly blacks out

Every now and then my computer will disconnect from my monitor and won't reconnect. I can't do anything but force shut it down by holding the power button. When it turns back on everything doesn't work. Apps won't load and it won't connect to the internet properly. When I restart it I just loads and does nothing. But when I chose power off the screen will go black and the computer will stay on. Please help
