I have a 7970 DirectCU II and was wondering if it will perform exactly the same as the 7970GHz if I match the clock speeds. If so, then why on earth would AMD simply release a card that could be achieved by doing some tweaking in Afterburner?

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

It should be near enough.  They release them for the same reason EVGA release an SC and FTW and Classified, if you want a card that is definitely stable at those clock speeds then you pay a bit more.

clocking it at a higher speed (over 1ghz) makes it more appealing for customers, especially the ones who dont know anything about computers..

it get a better silicon processor, so the ghz edition can be overclocked even further

this seems like something that would be piss easy to do tbh. its like how amd picks the 8320's 8350's 9370's and 9590's.. same cpu just different clocks

and Intel does, and everybody else who produces chips does.

how does intel do it? really quite curious because all of the chips in the k series are meant to be overclockable, some are brilliant and reach 5 ghz while others struggle to hit 4.2

exactly the same as AMD, they test the batch, and after that see if it is overclockable, and how it performs, and after that name it what it is best suitable for.

ah right. momentarily forgot its not just (for argument sake) 4670k and 4670 or 4770k and 4770. they have other i5's/i7's etc.

ghz one has 100000% chance of getting 1Ghz because it has been tested the normal ones have a chance of not reaching it and so this means they are better overclockers

is binined is the right word ?

binned is the correct spelling i believe.

wild logical guess buuuuut

i think its due to impurities in the cpu which is a problem they cant change also that not every atom of the atoms and molecules are exactly the same

please someone tell me if im wrong
