Greetings.
Completely new here, to this site and to help forums all together. (Hope this question is posted in the correct category.)

Just recently download SpeedFan to give it a try. I looked up a tutorial to make sure I got everything working correctly. I launched up a game to check in game temps. CPU in near 100c at around 50% cpu usage. My CPU fan is maxed out and can't keep up. (see FAN1 @ 1900RPM)
I restarted and check bios for temps. Same story. I attached some pictures.

Mobo: GA-Z97X-Gaming 3
CPU: I5-4690k (have not touched any oc settings)

Questions:
What temperatures are too hot? What's the minimum and the maximum?.
I've built and been using this computer for almost three years with no problems. Do you think my stock cooler or thermal paste was installed incorrectly? Hard to believe my cpu has been running that hot with no issues for three years. How did this become a problem?
What is temp3? It usually is running hot with my CPU. SpeedFan says it's on chipset "IT8620E". Not sure if that is related to my cpu. Is that a part on the mobo? If so, how do I fix that? If it's not part of the cpu, an after market cooler won't help?
I heard SpeedFan gives wacky temperatures readings, could this be whats happening? How do I be sure?

I bought a 212 EVO for my CPU just to be sure. Hope It can fix my problem. It hasn't come yet. Will update when it gets here.

(Check links for screenshots. I tired to attach them twice. Kept getting errors -200 "Problem processing upload file" Your going to have to open the images in newtab an manually zoom in to see them correctly. Sorry)

rogue? what do you mean? CPU is not under heavy load so cpu shouldn't be at 90c. (if your implying rogue malware)

i am implying rouge apps that are running on the background, malware can also cause issues like this. try to run an antivirus program and reinstall windows, update all drivers.

malwarebytes, HItmanPro and rkill found nothing. Nothing suspicious in task manager. All drivers seem to be fine.

How and why? I don't want to lose any data. My post was supposed to be more about SpeedFan and cooling issues anyway. You think my computer cpu can be over heating because windows isn't install correctly? Bit confused here.

just get a fan control software or tweak it in your bios.

You aren't being very rational or helpful. Speedfan IS fan controlling software and temps of 90C under 50% load can't be because of any virus or rogue software. Those would pin CPU usage to 100%.

As for problem. Remount cooler and reapply paste. O wait for 212 and install only that. Idle or 10-15% load should be at 45C using stock cooler (+-3C depending on room temp). Gaming temps should be somewhere like 70-80C. 90C with stock cooler is really hot. Its just under what is considered safe limit (95C).

The pics are bit weird (tip for future: crop them in some software to make filesize smaller and them more easier to read). Idle temps are correct at 40C-ish. But bit load and temps freak out. Stock coolers fan is working since its at 3k rpm. So it seems like bad paste or other mounting issue. Could you run some benchmark like Cinebench or 3DMark? If it shutsdown (overheating auto-shutdown), its definitely cooler issue. Otherwise it might be just bad or buggy sensor. You can't do anything about sensor, sadly.

If my computer turns itself off due to high temps, is that bad for it? I have never had it shutdown while running Cinebench or 3DMark. But temps get around 101C. I heard no modern cpu will break from heating problems because they will automatically shutdown before it causes damage. Is that true?

FAN#1 is my CPU fan, it's about 2k rpm. (see pics) Should it be at 3k rpm?  "Stock coolers fan is working since its at 3k rpm."

You think it's ok for me to continue gaming at these temps? or hold off until the new cooler comes?

No harm from single shutdown due temps. Its safety feature. Running it for long times at 95C+ will reduce its lifespan and might even do other permanent damage. We really don't know how much, buts its better to go for lower temps than take the risk. Single shutdown due temps is fine. Its testing to see where the issue is.

Sorry, that was my mistake. I was looking at GPU fan (mine doesn't list that at all). I'm sure the fan on stock cooler is fine. But you could try to set it at full speed in BIOS and see if it runs faster and if temps change.

Depends, if its only few days to new cooler, I would hold on for that time. You are so close to danger levels.

I tried to look for fan speed settings in my bios and found none. Just displays temperatures. On idle, 100% cpu fan speed - see picture.

Do all cpu fans max out at 2kRPM?

Nah, just stock or under 80mm ones. For 120mms (like the one on 212 Evo), normal max rpm is 1600. My 150mm CPU fans would max at 1300rpm, but I'v capped them to 1100rpm.
