So I've been thinking about overclocking my 8350 for a while now and i'm hoping to get some input for the community into what overclock would be safe and if anyone else has had experience overclocking the 8350 and is it really worth it? I run an cooler master 212 evo CPU cooler which has been amazing at keeping my 8350 at around 45°c under load (games like over watch on epic and battlefield 1 on ultra etc) so i'm not too worried about thermals.

I have mines under the same cooler. Not hard to over clock. Have mines at 4.5 at 1.376v under 60c load. You should post what motherboard you have as well

I don't think 970 chipset is good for overclocking, you need 990. I might be wrong though.

Main system: Ryzen 7 7800X3D / Asus TUF Gaming B650-Plus / G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO 32GB 6000Mhz / Zotac RTX 5090 SOLID OC/ x2 WD_BLACK NS770 2TBs/ Corsair HX1000i/ NZXT H5 Flow

You can, but it only goes so far... 4.2-4.5Ghz where'as a better 990FX could have you in the 4.6-5.0 Range (Dependent of cooling of course)

The VRM quality of the board is one thing to consider, but even on some crappier (not the worst of course) you can still pull off some decent clocks.

I've had a 970 board OC a CPU surpassing a 990FX board... (I think this was an isolated case though in regards to 990FX or CPU having issues on the IMC-MemoryController)

But 8000 series "should' in all respects... be used on many 970 boards, but usually only overclocked on stronger boards.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz
