CPU Thermal protection

It shouldn't be, modern CPUs are pretty good at preventing damage if it's from heat. If you went crazy with CPU voltage, it's not so good at protecting from that. 

My AIO cooler has been getting old (almost 3 years). In case my cooler fails, does my CPU have some sort of thermal protection that will prevent it from starting up or just shutdown when that happens? 

 

Im using an i7 4770k.

 

Edit: Im using a z87 mpower motherboard and cant seem to find it

If you have an AMI (American Megatrends Inc) bios it will come up with 'CPU FAN ERROR!'

Cool, i have a mild overclock at 1.25 currently so im a bit worried. Thanks again!
