Server sharing between friends??

So me and my friends are all living in the same city, we are a bunch of creatives who are upcoming. What we would like to do is create a cloud based drop & share server that's about 100 gb - 1000 gb. Can somebody advise me on right software or a cheap way of doing this? What are the options?

SyncThing is what I recommend to my friends, family, and co-workers and most of them love it. OwnCloud is popular but everybody I know who's used it ended up switching to SyncThing and never looked back.

Also, depending on your home internet speed and your location it might be better to rent a server for this so you all have great connectivity and the server will always be online.
