Ubuntu broken... I think.

Ok, I just installed Ubuntu on an acre aspire e 15 alongside Windows 10 on a laptop, and I have been using it for a week or so and it has been working fine, when all of the sudden, this morning, this happens:

 

i boot into Ubuntu.

 

i enter my password. Hit enter

 

The screen fills with green snow.

 

i reboot.

 

enter paswword

 

pink snow.

 

shoot.

 

how to fix?

 

all help appreciated.

 

P. S. i am completely new to Linux so I will be posting ALOT of questions in the next month. Solve my problems.

Ok, so I waited, and it got past the snow. Now it just shows

this. It does this every time, even after restart.

 Is it possible Ubuntu is just broken?

im guessing some weird gpu problem. Id update it it to the newest version(16.10) if you haven't already.

No. It doesn't work. Just freezes up. When I upgrade. Should I make sure the driver for the GPU is installed? (I didn't last time.) Also, when I upgrade, when I install it via USB to upgrade, is there a way to just tell it to install on the partition its already on? I have it running on 1 disk alongside windows using partitions. Lastly, is there a way to make sure it doesn't happen again?

gpu driver is built into kernel, you don't have to install it. 

 

You can tell it to use the same partition in the installer.

 

Id try fedora also.

I have personally had better luck with plug and play on fedora, but im also more of a centos/rhel/fedora guy.

 

You can try it on a usb and see what you think. They will both runthings like firefox/chrome/steam/libreoffice/codeblocks/vlc and most programs just fine.
