Hi guys I need help about adding extra RAM to my PC.

I'm using Gigabyte GA-Z87X-OC MoBo and DDR3 2x4GB Corsair Vengeance Pro Black PC12800 - CMY8GX3M2A1600C9.

I am trying to add another 8GB to my PC but my limitation is my CPU Cooler is using Enermax Tower either ETS-T40-TB or ETS-N30 because this PC is a given to me prebuilt from my father so I cannot pick and choose the part.

So with the Enermax cooler there is no way I can put another ram on the 4th slot (the slot closest to the CPU Cooler) so that only left me 1 more slot.

Aside from the limitation from my cooler, I don't want to just replace my 2x4GB RAM or replace the CPU Cooler straight away since it is fairly new so I wanted to just add another one so it can reach 16GB because I'm using NoX Player while gaming another game a lot and 8GB is slowing me a bit.

I'm aiming either using another DDR3 Corsair Vengeance Pro Black PC12800 1x8GB - CMZ8GX3M1A1600C9 which is around $61.73 and Gskill DDR3 Aegis PC12800 8GB Single Channel F3-1600C11S-8GIS $56.12 which one should I use and is it okay to use what is called Flex Mode in RAM? Because I will use slot Slot 2 for the new one.

After doing a research about this stuff pretty much everything is a bit bizarre and no straight forward answers that's why I ask here.

Thank you.

Can you get a photo of your actual system showing the heatsink and ram? Reason for asking is that it looks like the cooler is raised quite a bit, so I would have thought it possible to get some ram under it and you can then add another pair to maintain dual channel.

I think there is no way it can fit, I already tried it though but here is the shot I can't remove it from the case too much hassle.

The Corsair ones are really tall. I think standard height ram would fit, and if not there is even lower profile ram. It also looks like the fan is held on by one of the wire clips. So if it gets in the way you can easily remove it to get the ram in before replacing. You can even put it slightly higher if more space is needed.

It's not only the height that comes as problem but the width also. The width of the fan is slightly overlapped the 4th slot a bit so if I put the corsair ram there it will slightly tilted to the right because of the fan.

Well what do you recommend other than move the fan slightly higher? As if my question is about adding a 3rd ram with maybe different brand.

I'm suggesting you can probably find ram short enough to fit under the fan, so it wouldn't be pushed to the side. Depends on exactly how much space is under there.

You could go the 3rd stick route if you want to but I don't have experience of that, and it wouldn't be my 1st choice.

A low profile RAM but from different vendors allowed?
