Hello !

I've been in the market for some new Headphones, and seeing these fellas for 309, I had to buy it.

https://www.thomann.de/pt/sennheiser_hd650_hifi_kopfhoerer.htm

Now, 2 Questions, the price is low as fuck for these... on amazon they are going for 377 Dollars (around 355 euros) by anychance could they be fake ?

And the 2nd question is that ATM I don't have an AMP or a DAC all I have is my Motherboard, I do plan on getting one, in Summer but by now I can't afford to buy one, by any chance will they sound bad?

Thanks

The pictures look real - I'm not from where you are so I couldn't tell you how legit that store is.

What motherboard do you have?

I have a ROG Hero VIII.

Well I purchased a few things from there... but I never purchased headphones online :/

You shouldn't need any extra amplification as that motherboard's audio should be plenty capable. The HD650 isn't too hard to drive.

Yep, that shop is 100% legit. I have shoped there many times. It is a really awesome shop with really good support.

Your motherboard should be able to power them, but they love tube amps.

Before you buy amp and dac.  My thoughts on the M50x  Ultimate Ears Reference monitor review I might have a thing for audio...

My main Headphones and IEMs:  K612 pro, HD 25 and Ultimate Ears Reference Monitor, HD 580 with HD 600 grills

DAC and AMP: RME ADI 2 DAC

Speakers: Genelec 8040, System Audio SA205

Receiver: Denon AVR-1612

Desktop: R7 1700, GTX 1080  RX 580 8GB and other stuff

Laptop: ThinkPad P50: i7 6820HQ, M2000M. ThinkPad T420s: i7 2640M, NVS 4200M

Feel free to pm me if you have a question for me or quote me. If you want to hear what I have to say about something just tag me.

Nice choice. If you get the Valhalla, please do a comparison between your motherboard and the amp. I was eyeing the Valhalla for a bit and decided not to spend that much money and then decided between the Magni and Vali - ended up with the Vali 2.

I may be getting the Valhalla 2 soonish so I can let you know. I just need to sell my HE-560 first.

BTW, HD 600 and 650 owners, your original packaging has a little holographic sticker on the bottom with an authenticity code on it. You can type this into the Sennheiser website to check if your headphones are legit.

Just curious, why are you selling your HE-560's? I personally am debating between the HE-560 or saving a bit more for LCD2's. I currently have HE-400S's which i do enjoy, but I can't escape the upgrade bug lol. As for OP, Ive listened to both HD600 and HD650 on my 02 DAC/Amp, Aune T1, and iPhone. The phone had enough power to drive them, but unlike some headphones, there was a pretty nice improvement in quality, esp the bass department, when connecting them to a decent amp.

Yep, I have found that the HD 650 has revealed the most difference in sources so far.

I am selling the HE-560 because I like the HD 650 better and will use whatever I'm able to recoup towards a better amp and DAC.

Specifics and background; I've owned the HE-560 for over a year. However, in that time one flaw left me increasingly dissatisfied with the headphone: aggressive upper mids. The signature of the upper mids is a dip at 2kHz then a broad peak at 5kHz. This makes the headphone really fatiguing with certain music and imparts a somewhat unrealistic timbre on certain instruments, particularly strings. There is also a lack of ultimate top-end extension past 10kHz; it's there, but at a reduced level.

I realized that I need to ditch the HE-560 when I admitted to myself that I was actively avoiding parts of my music library because it was just unlistenable.

To be fair to the HE-560, the Magni/Modi stack is probably not the best pairing. It seems to be subtly bass light for some reason. However, I would prefer to buy an amp and DAC with the goal of maximizing the strengths of my headphones rather than minimizing weaknesses. The latter is what leads to fruitless rainbow-chasing and lots of wasted money in this hobby.
