Install windows

minezsz

Hello, so recently I buy a new ssd and I want to make it as my boot drive on my laptop. My plan is to format my laptop and then I clone it to my ssd. Then I wipe my hdd. What do you guys think? Do you guys have any recommendation on how should I install it? Thanks in advance!

Do you want to have a fresh install or clone it to the SSD? If you want to be sure that the files are gone from your old HDD then format it first with the windows CD. After that put in the SSD and install Windows.

My Setup:
CPU: i7 4790 @3800 MHz, MB: MSI H87-G41, Grafik: Gigabyte GTX 1080TI, RAM: 2x 8GB DDR3 (1600), Storage: Samsung SSD 850 Evo

Use the Microsoft media creation tool

Create a USB drive, plug in your new SSD, boot and install Windows from the USB drive.

After, connect your old drive though an external adaptor or something if you want to copy stuff from it to your new drive.

Does you mum know you're here?

I would recommend backing up everything you need from the laptop and installing a fresh copy of Windows on the new SSD.

Then install all your programs again, etc. + copy your files over. Make a list of all the programs you need. You can also backup all your Chrome data, bookmarks, etc.

if you mean cloning your laptop hard drive and putting it in your desktop it likely wont work

I reccomend backing up all your files to usb, then fresh installing windows on the desktop

IT should tie the key into the motherboard. At least windows 8 and 10 should.  Only way to really know is to try
