Hi all,

I have an Asus G751JY, when i purchased the laptop it had a pre-installed inch SATA SSD. However it has the option to upgrade to M.2 PCI SSD.

I would like to do this upgrade but i am facing 2 challenges.

1. how to find out if my chipset supports Nvme? I can find no official documentation on the subject.

2. The drive caddy, the m.2 slot is oriented perpendicular to the 2.5 SATA slot so i need a new drive caddy. I reached out to my local hardware shop but they said Asus don't stock the original part.

Any one have any idea's on how to find a good 3rd party caddy or best option would be a second hand genuine part but I can't find them either.

Appreciate any feedback.

Your laptop has HM87 chipset. I doubt it will support NVMe. Even if you connect a NVMe M.2 drive, you will likely not able to boot from it.

Definatly seeing conflicting arguments online. Looks like it is hit or miss with no official support for NVMe from Asus.

put the hdd/ssd in the space where the optical drive would be and then you would have space for your m.2 drive

That's an awesome caddy and a great idea but i need one that will support the M.2 drive as it wont work with the current caddy.
