Post X99?

I haven't been following any tech news of late, but is there anything projected to follow the X99 platform in the next year or so?  I know we've seen a couple chipset upgrades on the mainstream from Z97 in 2014 through Z270 now, but last I could find X79 ---> X99 was the only major chipset change of the enthusiast platform. Any word on a new enthusiast chipset/cpu series coming out? Or if I'm looking to upgrade from Z97 by the end of  the year should I just plan on Z270?

X-58 = 11/2008

X-79 = 11/2011

X-99 = 08/2014

That's roughly 3 years per platform.  X99 has been around for almost 2.5 years, so it stands to reason that an update is coming in the summer/fall of 2017.

X299 will be later this year I believe.  Whether or not it's going to be worth it remains to be seen.  You can expect the same IPC as skylake with additional cores.  Rumors are also circulating about 6 core mainstream i7s on coffee lake.

I'd personally stay on z97 for now, you won't see a big difference.  The CPU market is going to get very interesting this year.
