Alright, title gives you the basis of what my problem is... It's time for some details. First off let me say I didn't plan on doing SLI till i got my new monitors this spring but amazon screwed up and sent me 2, I planned on sending one back, then I had a few adult beverages and the thing just seemed to slip into my computer all on it's own.  So I installed it, and it's recognized.  Went into the nividia control panel, made sure "Multi-display/Mixed GPU acceleration" was set to "Single display performance mode" and "Power management mode" was set to "Prefer maximum performance".  Next I set my overclock to match the first GPU and everything ran smoothly....... except for the fact that I only saw a 10% increase in valley benchmark. Also in game seems un-noticeable.

I suppose you will want to know computer specs so here they are,

2xAsus ROG Strix 1070 8gb

1xAsus Maximus Hero VIII Motherboard

1xi7 6700k intel CPU

32 GB Corsair Vengance DDR$

1xCorsair HX850i PSU (I know I went a bit overkill but I do plan on doing some serious storage upgrades soon)

O.S. Win 8.1 (Side note, I tried it on win 10 and had like a 5% increase first go around)

Standard SLI Bridge

Need to know anything else about computer just ask.

Anyways, I've fiddled around with it. Tried messing with some settings in Nividia inspector for in game performance but what everyone else was setting for there 980's and older for 20-30% increases caused my framerate to drop to 2... yes 2 fps. lol

If anyone can be of assistance I'd appreciate it. I am a bit of a noob so take it easy on me, however I catch on pretty quick so don't be scared to throw ideas at me.,

Thanks in advance,

Rubberburner89

Im not sure if the heaven or valley benchmarks allow SLI support. I know firestrike does, and also, most games dont really support SLI from what i hear. you are better off getting 1 card. so your 2x 1070s, might have been better to get the 1080 since its a single card and less expensive than 2x 1070s. I only ran SLI once, and that was to test 2x 770s vs 1 1070 just to see performance gains.

Did you enable sli? Also are the device ID the same for both gpu's? When I had two 780 6gb cards they wouldn't sli because they didn't have the same device ID. Not saying this is your issue but it maybe your issue? Maybe one of the sli warriors can chime in with better advice on this.

I'm not sure if it is correct but I think you need to use the new SLI bridge the High speed (something something) to fully utilize them.

I have two 1080s and your story of how you ended up with SLI is comically similar to my own. That being said, if you're worried about them not being fully utilized, I'd run games with an OSD that shows your GPU usage to make sure it's working properly. Something like Afterburner or Precision XOC should work. You might also try Firestrike or another benchmarking program. As others have said, SLI is pretty hit and miss and depending on the game, you might only get a 10-20% boost. Yes, even with games that say they "support" SLI. I play lots of games and the only title I can think of that has given me 90% + utilization on both cards is The Witcher 3.

Well... It would appear everything is working properly and my game software hasn't caught up yet...

firestrike.jpg

Honestly I'm not even mad that this game isn't caught up yet. I've been so obbsessed with the low valley benchmarks combined with the poor performance in 1 game that I literally haven't tried any others.  And yes, i did try with and without sli enabled and my score dang near doubled.  So now that I know the hardware isn't messed up I can move on with my life.

I think where I'm on vacation, I may do some day drinking tomorrow to celebrate. :)

Heaven and valley scale 100% for me. I points and average fps. Games no so much but even so a large increase in frames.

I'd reinstall drivers if you haven't done so already.

Like mentioned you need to watch the stats and ensure both cards are hitting 100% use along with any restrictions.

I've tried reinstalling drivers literally like 10 times.....  And when I ran valley they we're only averaging about 75% usage, on both cards. Makes no sense to me.

if you render valley at 1080p on 1070SLI i'm not surprised they aren't maxed out...it's a 4K setup that you have there...

Yeah... i think so.

If you have that issue with the next monitor then I would worry.  I can't get my old cards to try in games at 1080p.
