Deciding between two CX Bikes

I will get a Cyclocross. I'm deciding between one from Evans for £800 (previously £1000) and one from Halfords for somewhere less than £600 (previously £650). I showed it to an employee in Halfords and he said based on the specs, they're both similar bikes and/ or practically the same. He also insisted he was being unbiased and giving his honest analysis.
