So I have a pretty beefy pc and until late just realise it wasnt working at full potential. My friend has a similiar build to mine and always seems to get double my frames no matter what. I need help determining the issue. I planned to do a clean install or reset of windows 10 erasing all my files but i want to do that as a last resort.

My specs:

Intel core i7 6700k

EVGA geforce gtx 1070 SC

8gb vengeance ram

Asus z170-A

1TB hdd

500w (I have no idea if this is the issue, it shouldnt be right?)

Friends specs:

Same CPU

Same GPU

32 gb vengeance ram

Some atx gigabyte board

1 tb hdd

500gb ssd (He has the games on his sdd but that shouldnt increase his frames so much over mine right?)

The last things that could be hurting my system are the psu, ram, or possibly the hard drive(I've tested and it says its healthy).

Wanted to add a few examples: Warface on high, I get 90-100, he gets over 200 easily. Warframe: I get 30 -40fps, he gets over 200 easily.

The SSD will allow assets to be loaded faster, the more ram allows more models to be loaded at a time, the PSU shouldnt be an issue but it might be sending a low ammout of voltage to the CPU which could underclock the CPU though this is unlikely the issue

I edited and included some games we both played. he just got a pc so he hasnt bought any games.

I have a EVGA 500w 80+ white? Thats what is says on amazon.

My cpu usage is fine, gpu is fine, ram can get to 70% sometimes, dont know how to check vram but 1070 has 8gb.

My temps are fine. Cpu is liquid cooled and i dont see the gpu go over 70 c very often if at all.

But in games that list that they use only 4gb shouldnt ram not be an issue? I have considered that the motherboard bios could be doing something but i dont know tbh. Its bios are at default like my friends is but we have different brands asus vs. gigabyte in this case

The PSU is just junk, so you should replace that. But it might not be the problem.

Is either your CPU/GPU usage pinned at 100% or are both well below that?

The only thing I can think of is the power supply and memory, the power supply isn't great for a 1070 and 6700k, you might not have enough power going to the cpu or the gpu. Memory is starting to become the minimum of 16GB so more memory may help you in the long run.

Alright ill hold off on reseting the pc. I was planning on buying this psu in the future. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LY4OJYJ/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_S_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=26LIGVGJLQQ6K&coliid=I1C05J2QG9YS9S&psc=1 either 750w or 850w. And i want to upgrade ram to 16gb around the same time i upgrade psu.

Any suggestions for psu? I've listed a link to another evga psu above but do they suck?

There is a thing called compression, to allow for more things to be loaded onto lower ammounts of ram, the games will either compress files onto ram and then uncompress them once loaded which can lower FPS. This is why 4GB can be stated as the minimum (Btw this is the ammount of ram required to be free at that time, and with windows taking up to 3 or 4gb now compression is probably occuring)

Plus like I said before the SSD might be the deciding factor as it is wastly faster than the HDD and thus will allow fames to load faster this includes models and other parts of the game like sound.

The G3 is a solid choice. Anything from Tier 1-3 (above 400w) from the PSU tier list in my signature will be fine. So buy whatever you're willing to pay for.
