In says on the page that thousands of AAA games are compatible, and that the ones that aren't you will be able to stream those from a Windows PC.  But it seems to me that no games will work except games already on Linux, because they need Windows to work.  What am I missing?

Either Linux games or a computer with Windows and your games on there? I'm not sure how it works but I think it's that you install SteamOS on a secondary computer and stream the games from the primary computer through that? Someone should correct me on that...

There is not such thing as "Steam OS", it's an Ubuntu distro.

The media just keep repeating that Valve is developing it's own OS when it is not.

It's not Ubuntu based but it isn't their own any more than a new skin on Ubuntu is my own. Still, it's an OS, and it's called SteamOS, so there is such thing as SteamOS.

It's Ubuntu based, already confirmed, the files for it are on Steams own servers.

Yeah, but PC games don't work on Ubuntu distro...

It's Ubuntu Precise

Branded Ubuntu is still Ubuntu... and the name SteamOS just generates clicks on tech/Gaming media sites.

With your logic, Ubuntu isn't an OS then. It's just a Linux distro.
