Going to drop a new GPU into a machine with onboard graphics but I don't want to spend more than $150. The machine is used for light gaming mostly on older titles (pre 2011) and rendering 720P videos for school. Any ideas? Was looking at either 7850 or a 650 ti.

Ginger (Main Desktop):

AMD A10 5800K / MSI Twin Frozr iii Radeon HD 7850 / Corsair XMS 8GB Dual Channel @ 1333MHz / MSI FM2-A75MA-E35

See if you can find a used 470 or 560Ti at that price. They're both better than a 650Ti Boost, and I've seen them around that price on eBay before.

Edit: If noise is a problem, go for the 560Ti, not the 470.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

Okay so I was on facebook talking to him, turns out he's been getting into let's plays on youtube. SO, is shadowplay worth it to get the 650ti? because most benchmarks show the 7850 being higher.

If he's not using a capture card/device than I would go with the 7850. If you want to spend $30 more and get a 7950, the performance would surely be worth it.

Spoiler

650 Ti < 650 Ti boost < 660 < 7850.

Ask him whether he wants more performance or better streaming.
