Performance drops with external display

Hello guys, 

I bought an external display for my laptop (Lenovo Y50-70), its an 1080p display, but now when I try to play the framerate drops without apparent reason, anyone knows why this can be happening?

is the 2nd display connected when you are playing ?

I guess I forgot to give a little bit more details. 

I changed windows settings so the second display is the only one that gets posted to.

use your main display when gaming disconnect 2nd display

The main display is the one attached to the laptop, I want to use the external, bigger one.
