At this very moment I am using a C2Q Q9400. Earlier today I tried to install a Xeon X5460 after I had updated my microcode and put the mod sticker on the CPU. Unfortunately it didn't work as expected. CPU-Z reported that my multiplier was locked at 6.0-6.5, and this was reflected in the benchmarks I did with Passmark PTest V9. The CPU also got very warm even though I have a massive heat sink (42C idle). There are no missing instruction sets.

The 5460 has a max multiplier of 9x, so having it locked at 6 is a bit weird.
