Video Suggestion - OSDev @LinusTechTips

@LinusTechTips

This suggestion is a series where Linus's coworkers (the ones that played in Scrapyard Wars, basically, and a few extras possibly) try to make the best operating system in... well, whatever you want (assembly, C, C++, C/C++, Rust, etc.). They have 1 month to assemble the final result and can have 1.5 months of training, and then they compare each other. Here's how they compare:

GUI implemented: +15 points

Shell implemented: +9 points

Ability to run programs implemented: +5 points

Ability to print some text: +1 point

Ability to print anything (hex numerals, etc): +2 points

Desktop implemented: +10 points

Ability to make a keyboard handler: +6 points

Ability to load the GDT: +4 points

Ability to load the IDT: +7 points

Ability to remap the PIC: +3 points

You can retrieve any tutorials from the OSDev wiki, but you may not copy and paste any code unless you're baffled. Have a lot of common sense, too.

Person with most programming experience there is Taran and his is even still just simple playing with robots. And you want to see 2 guys learning to code from basics to OS in two months.
