I have an old Dell dimension e510 that has been transitioned to a server, I am looking to give it a cheap (slight) improvement in performance. The point of this server was to get the parents on-board with having a server and then purchase a decent rig.

Base computer: Dell dimension e510

CPU: Pentium 4HT

RAM: DDR2 2 x 256mb

Storage: 160GB HDD

OS: Ubuntu 14.04 server

The server is being used to hold some files and running a Plex server.  I am currently able to serve a single 480p video without problem (I don't have any option for higher quality, so I don't know if it is a limitation of the source file, or if Plex knows there would be issues and just won't let me)

I am also running some video ripping (makemkv) and converting (Handbrake).  This is taking about 4.5 hours to convert a single DVD.

Ideally the video converting time and quality Plex can serve would be improved.
