Ssd and hdd.

So i have an Seagate Barracuda 500GB in my rig atm but im getting a samsung 850 evo 250gb in february and need help in how to install windows on it and keep the hdd as a storage device

You just do a clean install of Windows just like you did with HDD

Then format HDD after. Make sure to back up files on HDD too

When you do install windows make sure the SSD is the only one plugged in. Just to save windows from getting confused.

There are 2 ways to do this. 1 you can clone the old HDD onto the SSD which will include the windows installation (this will require the product key to reinstall windows) or 2 do a fresh install then move the required files to the ssd, then format the HDD

Im gonna do a clean install but how do i format the hdd then and i dont have any important files on my pc so i can wipe the drive.

What do you mean by that? You can create partitions during the installation or in disk management

During the installation there is option to delete drives

when you have the ssd ready, you can go into file explorer>computer or PC depending on the windows version> then right click the HDD and then click format> then click start and thats it

So i install the ssd (unplug hdd completly) then install windows on it and when done format drive from file explorer? But cant i format it in the windows installation?

No, unplug HDD and install the SSD. The windows installer will let you set up partitions on the SSD.

 

Once windows is installed, plug your HDD back in, back up data you want to keep, then format the drive using windows disk management. (win10: right click on start button -> computer management -> disk management.

 

Make sure you have copied over anything you want to keep from the HDD before following through on the formatting in disk management.
