Problems with my AMD HD7850 GPU

So i recently got a second hand HD7850 (by xfx) and only today (1st of january 2017) has the fan started working without me having to nudge it. i cant update any drivers because it doesn't like outputting through DVI to a VGA adapter, and i only have a VGA monitor. my system is quite old: Pentium dual core e5200, 4Gb DDR2, g31m-s mobo by asrock, and a 450w psu that came with the case.

Literally any ideas would help at this point.
