when one wants to design their own PC hardware (using off the shelf components),  where does one go to find low cost bulk cpus,  surface mount NVME and other compoents (i know digikey has alot but is there other sources?)

does anyone have recommendation for a low power CPU that has great compute ability, without all the bells and whistles like USB controllers, video,  etc

And for your PC hardware design, I wouldn't know. Get a job at Micron or Intel, perhaps?

Order directly from a hardware supplier. For example, you could contact AMD on a pricing offer for say, 1,000 units of any of their CPUs and they would give you an estimate.

fair enough.. but i still need to determine WHICH cpu to buy

for example... i would love to have a chip that has a big.LITTLE setup with cortex a35/a73  cores... but who in the heck makes and sells the things (arm is just licensing i believe... see here https://www.arm.com/products/buying-guide/index.php )   how do i get my hands on 10k of the things?
