Personally, I believe the difference between 30 and 60 fps is a clear advantage in a competitive shooter. However, the difference between 60 and 120 fps is harder to feel and notice (although it is definitely noticeable once you play for a while). My question to everyone: do you think that there is a significant advantage to those playing at 100+ fps compared to those playing at 60?

I can't notice it in certain games, but in others like CSGO, I can tell the difference between 60FPS and 120FPS, and 120FPS to 200FPS. I personally have to be getting 200+ FPS all the time or I can't play; it's the difference between getting the pick and not getting the pick.

What? There definitely is. Certain characters in overwatch are unplayable for me at 60 fps. Even at 144, it gets annoying when I dip to 110 and certain characters feel unresponsive to me.

It comes down to the display.

If you're playing on a 60hz monitor, no matter what FPS you're hitting, you'll barely tell the difference.

If you're on a 120hz+ display, the difference in frames can be game changing.

Yeah, I believe it CAN be. But I play a lot of R6S and I've not really noticed a change in my game since I moved from 1080p 144 fps to 1440p 75 fps

Agreed, it does make a difference for CSGO, but I think that is about the only shooter it really does.

Never played overwatch, so I wouldn't know. However, playing games like rainbow six siege which is a rather twitch shooter as well as bf1, I have noticed a change in the smoothness of the gameplay, however, the change hasn't made me any worse than I was before, and I would say I am definitely above average in both.

I think it's just you. Even people who don't play intensive shooters swear by the added smoothness of higher refresh rates

Oh I'm not saying I don't notice a difference in smoothness, I'm just saying I don't believe it is one of those "it'll make you a better player" kind of things. Things like clean audio, and map knowledge are more like that imo.

true. Unless it's ultra-competitive and you have the reflexes of a ninja on cocaine, it's more to better the experience of the game than to actually improve performance.

Regardless of what I've said, I can 100% concur that gaming at 120+ fps is absolutely amazing in terms of feel. That's why even though I have my fancy smancy 1440p 165hz monitor, I still play certain games on the 1080p monitor because I like the feel.

A higher refresh rate doesn't improve your skills as a player. But a highly skilled player would still benefit from it.

No doubt, however I think people make that benefit seem like a lot more than it actually is, that is my only real point I guess.

Well those games are a bit slower. When I played BFBC2, I was fine with about 110.
