boot fail

Hey guys need some help here, so I just built my first pc back in March. Everything worked just fine for a few months and now is failing to boot most of the time, it goes to a black screen and says boot fail please reconnect proper boot device then hit any key. The problem I'm having here is I replaced the sata cable and that seemed to do it for a few weeks then it happened again so I just went to the bios and clicked on the ssd in boot menu and works just fine. My question is how do I fix this so I don't have to go into the bios every time I get on my pc.

asus z170 a mobo

i7 6700 cpu

sandisk ssd

wd blue hdd

g.skill ripjaw ram 16gb

evga 980 sc

Kentek 850watt psu

Welcome to the Forum!

 

You just need to fix the boot order, so the computer knows to try to boot from the SSD, and knows to try the SSD before anything else.

Odd. Try clearing the CMOS and then set your BIOS options the way they should be again.

Your BIOS settings are stored in volatile memory, if you cut power to that memory you'll reset the settings.

Your motherboard will have a small battery on it, which you can remove, which if you also remove system power, will allow you to clear the CMOS. There may also be a couple of pins you could short on your motherboard to do this, but removing all system power and removing the CMOS battery for a minute (to then place it back) is generally easier.

ok so unplug it then remove the battery for 60 sec and then place it back in at that point will I have to reset up thing in the bios?
