Laptop refuses to use dgpu?

So I own a laptop with a gtx 940mx. Not gaming grade by any means but I usually only play dota 2 soo no big demands. Recently checked some benchmarks and got gta 5. It gives around 40 fps at medium at 768p. The thing is sometimes it gives horrible frames rates like it's running the game on igpu. I can say this because I can clearly notice the dgpu fan not running. I think it's the battery boast feature of 900m cards for saving battery which switches to igpu when not needed (not sure about the feature's name). I tried different scenarios like playing at low battery, full charge, charging connected, discharging, changing default gpus, changing power consumption setting to max performance in nvidia control panel(only tried that and optimal). All of them yield random results :(.... Can someone help me out?
