Hey there,

I am looking to build a PC over a laptop.  I want it primarily for Web browsing, advertising so eventually I will want to install a photo editor like photoshop.  I would also like to become familiar (in the next year or two when affordable) with producing audio sound with beats and microphone recording.

I have tried to figure out if i7 or i5 will do the exact job for my needs. I can't fihire out if photoshop or any of the studied audio workstations allow hyperthreading or not.  I plan to use Komplete and Sony's mixing program.

I really rather condense my build for home/personal use and have it geared up for novice level editing and perhaps play some games on it.  I know I could buy a basic laptop for work and marketing.  Then build a desktop for my editing stuff later.  Since I am just getting familiar with editing again for the first time in about 7 years, it's tough to buy a computer focused strictly on that with under a $900 budget.

I care for speed and fluent load and launch.  I think the greater the numbers on ssd, ram, and processors all mean better but I'm learning that's not exaxt.

Something @lukart also overlooked-

Do you need a keyboard, mouse, Windows key, and monitor? You mentioned you're building a PC to move away from your laptop, which would indicate that you don't currently possess any of these.

Is there really any point in paying $45 more for an X150 board when if you put that towards the CPU, you can get a 6700? It's a better CPU; with a 200MHz faster boost clock, 15 watts lower power consumption, and an iGPU for backup. It's evidently the better purchase.

It's important to remember that Skylake E3 Xeons are distinctly different from Haswell E3 Xeons in that they are not supported on consumer motherboards like Haswell Xeons were. One of the best value setups of the last generation was pairing a Xeon E3 1231-v3 with a cheap B85 or H81 board to gain 4790-level performance for far cheaper. While it's unfortunate that Intel chose not to go with this, it's the way things are. Hopefully, they'll bring it back.

You could get a cheaper board: http://pcpartpicker.com/product/62mxFT/gigabyte-motherboard-gax150mplusws

Yeah, this is the only thing that justifies a Skylake Xeon. I'd still say 200MHz of boost clock and an iGPU for backup, along with less power consumption (less heat) is a good reason to spend $20-$25 more on a Core i7 6700 and a cheap H110 board, but then again, this motherboard is probably better.
