I want to buy a primary SSD, but I'm not sure which one to get.

By my small comparison table MX300 looks like a winner, but maybe it is worth spending few bucks more for some other drive

You tell me the answer.

I'd personally go for the ADATA SP550 or the Kingston UV400. They're both cheap and reliable SSDs that have good reputation and I've used them personally. Got the 2.5" 240GB Kingston UV400 in my notebook, an ADATA SP550 M.2 240GB in my main rig and both are only slightly slower than my 120GB 850 EVO which is considered a very fast 2,5" drive.

If you have a motherboard with an M.2 slot, then get this: http://pcpartpicker.com/product/MFs8TW/intel-600p-series-256gb-m2-2280-solid-state-drive-ssdpekkw256g7x1

The read speeds are about triple as fast as your typical SATA SSD. If you don't have an M.2 slot, get the 850 EVO or if you want something cheaper the MX300 is a good option.

So which one do you personally prefer, kingston or adata. Is there a difference between m.2 and 2.5" sp550 as I don't have m.2 slot.

They usually cost around the same, the ADATA one is a bit faster but it's not noticeable. On the other hand Kingston is a reputable brand and you wouldn't have any issues in case you needed to RMA etc. so if I needed a boot SSD I'd probably buy the Kingston one despite it being a tiny bit slower as it's not a noticeable difference.

As for M.2 and 2,5" difference, in this particular SSD (SP550) case it doesn't really matter as the M.2 version also uses SATA III interface to transfer data, meaning they're the same in terms of speed. M.2 one is just physically smaller and I had a spare M.2 slot so I decided to use it instead of mounting another 2,5" drive.

OK, so the store I'd buy from has these four drives

- UV400 - $93

- SP550 - $95.56

- 750 EVO - $97.25

- MX300 - $97.25

I can only choose one of this four, and by being the cheapest UV400 wins, but the thing bugging me is that MX300 offers more capacity for almost identical price, and that makes decision more difficult.

Also @huilun02 what is your opinion based on statement above?

I hope you don't mind me posting in this thread instead of starting a new one.

I'm from England and in a similar situation.  I'm looking to buy a 250GB ssd for a netbook and at the moment I'm considering the SK Hynix SL308 and the Crucial MX300 which are about the same price so I'm leaning towards the Crucial because it has more space.

The 750 evo is also about the same price here and I didn't really consider the ADATA because it offers less storage for the same price as the Crucial.  I never really considered Kingston after the V300 issue.

If the prices are the same what should I go for?

MX300, SL308, 750 evo?
