doom3 linux steam

I had doom 3 many years ago running natively on linux with a retail purchase. I just had a look on steam and its only a few dollars however it only lists windows under the system requirements. Can someone with linux & doom3 on steam confirm if the game will launch from steam?

i found this thread on steam forums, it's from 2010, but it should still work i guess...

(if you want to confirm it does, go trough the entire step 2 before you spend any money)

 

also, i'm pretty sure steam has a "show CD key" button somewhere now, so step 1 is easier/can be omitted all together

yes i know that one. im wondering if it can launch directly from steam in 2016. Im not confident doom3 will run on a modern linux system without dependency issues

there's some word on there being updated versions of the game under linux, but i cant help you there.
