Should I upgrade to dual channel ?

FugSnug

Well guys I'm pretty sure i currently have a cpu bottleneck because in Tom clancy's the division my cpu usage jumps up to 90 even 100% sometimes and while the cpu is at that usage my gpu usage usually decreases and I have pretty much tried everything for example: New Motherboard, another CPU, another PSU. but the only thing I haven't tried is upgrading my ram to dual channel the thing is though i don't have any DDR4 ram lying around so i have to buy some new ones but it would suck if it didn't help the performance so im asking you guys for help. Any tips?

Specs:

CPU: i7 6700k@4.5ghz

GPU:GTX 1080

Ram: 1x16 2133 Crucial

PSU: 600W EVGA G2

Mobo:Gigabyte z170 gaming K3

With such a high end CPU I doubt adding new RAM will do anything since the memory controllers on the 6700k are great.

Then what do you think I should do?

Though If you are 'willing' to spend the money get two DDR4 8gb sticks with a 3000mhz+ clock

It won't be noticeable, maybe 1-2 fps if any. So I wouldn 't upgrade just for more game performance. And your CPU should be fine and not a bottleneck at all.

No SSD? Well, there's your bottleneck, you're running everything off of the same mechanical drive.

Go buy an SSD and put your OS on it.

For now:

  • Disable Windows Defender
  • Disable Windows Search Indexer

Though you're probably not getting bad performance anyway, are you.

What about other games?

It's most likely something within the game's settings that is causing problems. Try to play around with the game settings a bit, switch between DX10/11/12 if that's possible, disable features, etc.
