CPU - Ram Chnls

hi im new to pc building an im trying to understand something about choosing my cpu and ram im think about going with an intel 6700k or 6800k

on intels ARK site the 6700K say max mermory chnls 2 and the 6800k say max mermory chnl 4

i do understand that they are 2 different chipset and 2 different socket sets, but im confused because i feel like i see some pc build vidoes where they are using the 6700K with 2 or 4 stick of Ram or im seeing the 6800K with 4 or 8 stick of ram, is this correct? i know x99 boards support up to 8 sticks of RAM. would the phrase 2 mem chnls equals 4 RAM sticks be right?

X99 can support quad channel.

Others support dual channel.

 

You will have two sticks per channel [for dual-channel].

[You will have four sticks per channel for quad-channel].

Just wanted to clarify that having dual channel does not mean that you will have 4 slots. Micro ATX and Mini ITX boards will have dual-channel while only possessing 2 slots.

It'll "work" with one stick. You just need pairs for the "optimal" performance.

a few mini ITX have 4 slots and many Micro ATX have 4

I'm aware. I didn't want the OP to think that dual-channel was only present on boards with 4 slots.
