New system, really slow

Hey Everyone,

 

I recently upgraded my platform and I am having strange issues since I did.

 

OS

• Windows 7 currently but trying to upgrade to 10

 

Old Platform

• i7 920

• Gigabyte x58-ud3r

• 8GB ram

 

New Platform

• i5 6400

• 16GB ram

• Gigabyte h170n wifi

 

Other Hardware

• OCZ trion SSD

• 600w PSU

• storage hard drive

• GTX 750

 

These are the issues I am having.

 

1. Windows 7 is significantly slower than windows 10.

   1. On windows 10, the following things run slower

      1. Internet Speed runs at 20M instead of 100M in windows 7

      2. Zip extraction is about 8x slower

      3. Youtube videos skip when I am screensharing on skype

      4. Very slow performance in Photoshop when even trying to navigate around photos

   2. This is happening regardless of which platform I use

2. General performance in the same operating system is slower in the i5 platform rather than the i7 platform even though the i7 platform is slower than the i5.

   1. Much of the same issues as above.

      1. I notice that youtube does not skip at all when I am on screenshare on skype

      2. No slow performance in photoshop

      3. Internet speed is typically around 100M constantly

I have a few theories, but I'm having trouble diagnosing the issues. Would love some insight from some more people

 

My Theories

1. 4 threads instead of 8 threads

   1. Not sure how much this would effect something like photoshop, youtube and internet speed.

2. Windows 10 requires more resources

   1. This is the only thing I can think of, but 16GB ram is quite generous for what I do.

      1. No Gaming

      2. Web Development

      3. Photoshop

      4. Youtube

 

So a quick order of which combinations are fastest to slowest

1. i7 + Windows 7
2. i5 + Windows 7
3. i7 + Windows 10
4. i5 + Windows 10

 

Ideally, I would like to have the i5 + windows 10

Ok that's pretty much everything, could really use some help

 

I can come up with screenshots and benchmarks of all of the system variations, but would really like some insight before hand.
