Steam Link

Guest

So, I don't have a smart TV, not plan to buy one anytime soon. I do have an older 1080p TV and I basically operate 100% without cable - so I don't even have the TV set-up because I don't have currently have cable.

My question is.. would the steam link be a good way of making my TV into a streaming device, using my pc?

What I would expect it to do:

Play/stream netflix onto my TV

Play movie from amazon prime

general web browsing

youtube playback, etc.

I'd likely not use it for gaming at all (maybe down the road). I can hard line connect it via the internet since my pc and ethernet is all in the same spot - and so would the TV.

Personally I would have gone with a roku or chromecast. It's cheaper, it's compatible with ur phone and I've tried it before and I really love it

But Roku doesn't have a browser. You can cast it from a phone, but not native.

Do any of the streaming devices have native browsers?

The chromecast is basically a link between a smart device and ur tv. Then it doesn't have any browser, but the smart device has one

I'm really not a fan of using my phone as the interface for streaming.

This type of tech is outside my wheelhouse - so the help/conversation is appreciated.

Chromecast is better in that regard. Roku doesn't have Chromecast, but it's got "Android Mirror Beta", which has shoddy resolution, interference issues, and lag worse than Day of Defeat on a 56k Modems. If the OPS wants browser from the phone, do Chromecast.

The other suggestions would be to just hook up the PC to the TV and go to town. No need to make it fancy, Dirt.

If you use PC, Microsoft uses Miracast. You can get an adapter pretty cheap.
