Hello to all.

I have experienced a strange problem with some programs causing abnormally high GPU usage, I am not worried about the card cooking itself as even with this problem engaged I almost never get high than 52c. Temp.

but this still shouldn't happen, yet it does.

The graphics card in question is a Zotac GTX 1070 AMP! Extreme with an advertised clock of 1835MHz. The offending programs (That I have found) are Steinberg myMP3 & Corsair Utility Engine for use with my keyboard and mouse. When I run either or both programs I seem to have a usage of 1632MHz running both does not increase usage nor do they use a different amount on their own. Without these programs running I have an idle clock of 278MHz. These non-graphic intensive programs apparently use of half of advertised clock speed.

I am quite confused, I know that those two programs are causing it but as to why, I have no clue. My video player (Which I just tested while typing this) does so also but at least it makes a little more sense with a video player, still seems a bit much though. If I was running a game, say Fallout 4 then it would absolutely make sense, but not with a Music Player and a peripheral utility manager.

Am I overreacting? Or is this all a symptom of a bigger problem.

Thanks to all.

I have a similar problem!

My card (EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 FTW Gaming) idles at 19% GPU POWER and 1721MHz Clock Speed, which causes the card to idle at 41°C, which I find a bit weird.

My old card (GTX 770) idled with 2-3% GPU POWER, which was 28°C (Room temp)..

I do have two monitors a new 165hz 1440p and an old 60hz 1080p, but I cannot imagine this being the power thief?Capture.PNG

I'm no expert but even with the GPU having to display to two monitors even high-end ones I couldn't imagine an idle clock that high.

Rather than looking at clocks, does GPU usage also move around with these software? It doesn't hurt for GPU to run with high clocks. It will just use tad more power.
