Hi all!

I have recently upgraded to a z170 Pro Gaming Motherboard and I'm trying to install my drivers. I had tried downloading the network driver to 2 different USB drives but they aren't showing under my computer. I had a previous version of windows on an ssd so it's not a fresh start.

Additionally, i've got an external disk drive and this is also not showing under my computer and it has the disk that came with the board inside. The drive along with the USB drives have all been recognised under the BIOS however. Very strange to me.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Not sure however I don't have any drivers installed due to the fact that my cd drive and USBs aren't being found.

That is quite odd considering my z170 pro gaming was just fine. Oh wait, I don't think windows 7 comes with the new drivers for the new usb Co trollers and won't work, I think you need to add certain files to your installation usb. You'd have to do research considering I know next to nothing about this.

You should try checking to see if the BIOS driver version is up to date.
Simply note your current version (listed in the BIOS/UEFI screen), then go to your motherboard manufacturers website and find the drivers/downloads area. Find your specific motherboard.

If the version you have is older than the one on the site, download the new one.

Your z170 board should have a "Flash BIOS" option. This will allow you to update the driver without any USB or external media device.

You may need to try a couple different versions if the first (most recent) doesn't work for you.

OK, some z170 boards do not sync well with windows 7, and as such the USB 3 drivers have to be added to the install of windows 7. Some manufacturers link this http://www.asrock.com/microsite/Win7Install/

to get you started.. you have fallen into this area I'm guessing. You'll have to follow that guide and re-do the windows 7 install as without doing it your USB ports won't work as you have found out.

Ooops, sorry, mean to say that the link above is for ASrock boards, but I'm sure if you have a look on your mobo's manufacturer page you might find something similar that tells you how to do it.

I have successfully tried to install drivers, got a cable to power Optical Drive but then hit another issue being that now literally no mice or keyboards work!

Any tips? I have my Win7 installation CD...

Read what I said above, you need to alter the windows 7 ISO with a program that injects the drivers in there so that USB devices will work... that's the only way you will get this working.

  • 2 weeks later...

Got it working without any of the suggestions listed. No need to re-install windows whatsoever.

Cheers.
