I'm trying to power a floppy disk drive with its old PSU without the motherboard. I saw this video

And the guy says that you can just put a paperclip on the green and black wires and power it up. I was hoping I could do this to power my floppy disk drive so I can use it to try and play music with.

This is the video that I was following to play music with a floppy disk

 I could either...

Use a PSU to power it without having to worry about overpowering my floppy

or..

Use a 9v battery and hope it doesn't short it

any solutions?

So, the 9 volt battery WILL overvolt the floppy? Do you know?

I don't know for certain, but I wouldn't risk it if I have a PSU that was designed to power a floppy drive.

Okay

I dont have any electrical tape, so it would be dangerous to power the floppy, too...

I don't know man

Back then, I think floppies were usually 5v, so, it definitely could.

It's not the matter of if it could, but if powering it with 9v will kill it or not

The logic ran off the 5 volts, the motor ran off the 12, so chances are you'll break something.

Okay, i'll just use the PSU

Thanks guys!
