In-Line Mic

Hey folks, does anyone know of any way to get an in-line mic working on a pc? Specifically for the ie80 in ears. I have cable to split out to the front mic and audio jacks, but the mic still doesn't pic up any sound. Oddly enough though, it does show a sound level if i click on one the in-line control buttons.
